Traditionally, Oct 6 means celebrating Applefest in Bayfield. Breaking tradition, we instead drove Duluth to arrange for haul-out of our boat. The season is officially over.
The past few years, we’ve grown used to the roughly 4.5 hour drive to Bayfield from Buffalo MN. What a treat to arrive at the Spirit lake Marina in Duluth in just under 3 hours. We took the Midway exit off 35 W and cut over to hwy 23- perfect short cut to our destination.
First task is to remove and fold the sails. Always a bonus to get this job done when the wind is calm and the sails are dry. check and check.
Photo Documentation includes a visual of the lines, the rigging and the hardware – this should help at launch in the spring!
Ready for Haul Out
The crew helped move Aquila into position for haul out.
The Mast is usually left on for the winter, but due to some re -wiring and upgrades, this season it was removed. What a sigh of relief to see it safely resting on the barrels. Just a few remaining “housekeeping items” for the fall… a portable pump out comes in handy.
